Our organization was founded in 1987 with some specific purposes in mind, besides just organizing a gathering of neighbors who are interested in their old houses and neighborhood. One goal was to provide a non-partisan forum for residents to effectively participate in planning and decision making as it affects the neighborhood and its livability.  We also should stay informed of the views and opinions in the neighborhood and to give accurate presentations of those views. And lastly to help solve individual issues and problems without involving the city government.

Washburne Neighborhood Bylaws, adopted 4/9/1987:

Article III. Purpose

Section 1.  The purpose of this organization is to provide a non-partisan forum by which neighborhood residents can effectively participate in planning and decision making as it affects the neighborhood and its livability.  We shall not endorse or oppose any candidates for public office.

Section 2.  The Washburne Neighborhood shall attempt to be informed and familiar with the views and opinions of the neighborhood and be able to give an accurate presentation of those views.

Section 3.  This organization realizes that certain problems and individual issues can be successfully and efficiently addressed without having to involve city governmental functions or processes.
